Too generic...

With "The Grieving" being a horror movie that I hadn't already seen, nor actually ever heard about, of course I needed no persuasion to check it out. I am, after all, a fan of all things horror. When I sat down to watch "The Grieving", I virtually had no idea what I was in for. So in a sense, I suppose that the writers and directors had every opportunity to entertain and impress me.Writers Alessandro Antonaci, Stefano MandalĂ , Daniel Lascar and Paola Dangelico put together a script that fell short of entertaining me. The narrative was simply too generic and predictable, and that didn't exactly make for an outstanding horror experience. I am not saying that "The Grieving" is a bad movie, not at all; I have just seen far too many horror movies for it to impress me.One thing that worked in favor of the movie was the fact that I was not familiar with a single actor or actress on the cast list. The acting performances in the movie were fair. The effects in the movie were adequate.Watchable, but hardly a movie that warrants more than a single viewing. My rating of directors Alessandro Antonaci, Daniel Lascar and Stefano MandalĂ 's 2025 movie "The Grieving" lands on a generous four out of ten stars.

Ashes To Ashes

Brevity is the soul of wit, so I'll keep it brief. The Grieving works and fails on the same sword...funding. On one level, the lack of budget forges a clevely understated film that would have been all out trash in the hands of a James Wan. On the other hand, the lack of budget means a B list cast that flounders at times. I thought Penelope Sangiorgi held her own in the lead and Francesca Vettori was strong as the deceptive Gloria but the rest of the cast were operating off a different script entirely. Worth a one-time watch for sure.

Phenomenally BORING

UGGGHH... another movie with the premise of a short film but stretched out to a painful feature film length. This is becoming a real problem. If you don't have a good story to tell, don't waste a bunch of resources making a movie. It is that simple. Watching one character wander around in silence experiencing strange things is boring and your attempts to add tension and suspense just make it MORE BORING. We've seen all of this before. There are hundreds of movies just like this. You can't use style to mask the fact your story has no substance. Edit this movie down to a tight 30 minutes and you've got something half way decent. But at its current run time it is TORTURE.
