Mahesh Narayana's Patriot is a gritty espionage thriller/drama dealing with a contemporary social issue. The director and writer does a very good job in using his stars making sure that they serve the story rather than the other way around. Patriot is reminiscent of a certain superstar's movie

Patriot is reminiscent of a certain superstar's movie from two years ago that had something to do with computers & students. The only difference is that the massy scenes are sort of reduced. There is no hero worship and that is just one of the two things I liked about the movie. The other was Sushin's Manushyan track - such a powerful track. Patriot is an out and out Mammootty movie and I accept that. I had no qualms about it not giving all the heroes equal importance. That said, the other actors' roles are very underwhelming here. Mohanlal's cameo is good, but his scenes with Mammootty are devoid of any chemistry given their characters have known each other for years. Kunchacko Boban is not a small-time actor, and watching him get such an insignificant role is sad. Fahadh needs a reset after yet another predictable/familiar performance. The actresses are basically just added for inclusivity because they have neither impactful roles nor screentime.
