Plot summary

Fresh out of prison, Ava's attempt to reclaim her drug operation collapses when she witnesses a brutal crime, forcing her to flee into a nightmarish underworld where allies are scarce and enemies multiply by the minute.

A very depressing and bleak movie that had

A very depressing and bleak movie that had great acting about a young women recently released from prison and immediately gets into trouble again.

I like bleak, and this film serves it

I like bleak, and this film serves it up aplenty. I guess I understand why it seems to be getting a lot of hate: there are some weird shifts and twists that seem implausible, true; the overall tone and feel is quite dreary, the outlook for our protagonist bleak from the very beginning. I suppose I don't mind that though because I believe the performances do shine and the acting is solid throughout. The story to me feels real. From the opening scenes until almost the end, there is a desperation that I find relatable, but I guess could be off-putting to many. Overall I liked where it ended up. It felt consistent with the narrative set forth in the film: almost but not completely hopeless. As Ava says, feeling free and being alone are one in the same thing
