A beautiful documentary highlighting Robin Byrd's legacy - this NYC icon's sense of humor, smarts, and loving spirit. Her accidental activism fighting to maintain first amendment rights in the media, promoting HIV education and safe sex practices. Her sweet relationship with her partner. Her whole authentic self.

This documentary was a revelation- Robin Byrd was

This documentary was a revelation- Robin Byrd was someone I knew of only from SNL sketches. Now, I will forever be her champion like she was for self expression and radical self acceptance. I may not agree with every aspect of her lifestyle or expression of a lifestyle but I am fully in support of her right to express it and her advocacy for others to freely do the same! - I left off half of a star for 2 reasons NEITHER OF WHICH HAVE TO DO WITH ROBIN. First - how the director chose to portray her husband’s dementia - specifically the scene in Katz Deli when the editor cut it to appear as though Shelly was talking about his sandwich in response to the meaningful Fan Letter Robin was reading to him. (That was NOT how he responded - that was a deliberate attempt to make him appear feeble) Second - one of the few times the doc showed a person of color was a dancing black man with a voiceover from Julis’ bartender saying "people you wouldn’t touch with a ten foot pole" (choice edit)
