Plot summary

After 37 years, the canals of Amsterdam are once again turning blood red. Tara Lee is a young ambitious detective with the Amsterdam police force who is confronted by a number of gruesome incidents around the canals. She enlists the help of Visser, a retired detective who once nabbed a serial killer stalking those same canals. They face an adversary who seems to possess superhuman powers.

A Disappointing Sequel - The Original Was Much Better

As a Dutch viewer, I was really hoping Amsterdamned 2 would capture some of the charm and tension of the original. Unfortunately, it falls short on almost every front. The story is extremely thin, with a long and rather dull buildup that never truly leads anywhere. When the film finally reaches its climax, it's over in a flash, leaving the ending abrupt and unsatisfying.The acting is mostly below average. Huub Stapel is a clear exception and delivers a strong performance. Holly Brood is a beautiful actress with potential, but she still has some growing to do in terms of depth and range - and the script doesn't give her much to work with either.The boat chase is well-executed, and the drone shots of Amsterdam look great, but these highlights only underline how much more the film could have been. The music doesn't leave much of an impression, and overall the film feels like a missed opportunity.Amsterdamned 1 was far better. This sequel simply doesn't live up to its promise.

Great Entertainment!

A thoroughly entertaining Dutch action film. While this sequel to Amsterdamned (1987) doesn't quite live up to the original, it's certainly not bad, with good action scenes, plenty of humor, and a bit of Amsterdam promotion. Holly Mae Brood and Huub Stapel play their roles convincingly and clearly enjoy themselves. Thirty-eight years after the original film, director Dick Maas still manages to make an exciting action film-by Dutch standards. Great entertainment!
