Affection has some fascinating themes and premise, however

Affection has some fascinating themes and premise, however, suffers from a lack of clarity at times, leaving what feels like a lot of unanswered questions to things that feel hard to ignore. With that being said Jessica Roth puts in a strong performance, in many ways carrying the film and being a strong contributor to the viewers questioning of the moral dilemmas presented. The setting of the film is highly contained which helps and hurts the film, helping it as it keeps the film feeling claustrophobic and maintaining focus on the characters present, hurting it as it feels less understandable that any questions would be left unanswered. With thst being said this is a thought provoking film with strong performances and an overall entertaining viewing experience.

There’s a good idea somewhere in here, but

There’s a good idea somewhere in here, but the movie never seems to take the time to find it. Unfortunately, it plays like a Black Mirror episode left on the cutting room floor. The performances are fine, but the plot meanders without ever doing anything especially interesting or taking any real swings. The sci-fi elements feel rushed, and every chance to go deeper with the characters either gets cut short or falls flat. I hope the creators get to revisit this idea or theme in some form, because there’s something here worth exploring. But this version never really gets to the heart of what it’s trying to do. Unfortunately, I couldn’t wait for it to be over. I definitely don’t think it worked.

While the film shows its cards a bit

While the film shows its cards a bit too early, and I wish it had committed to the psychological elements more, it's still never stops being an intriguing ride with creative twists anchored by strong performances.
